Backgammon – Three Basic Schemes
Posted in Backgammon on 02/16/2018 09:25 pm by ZaireIn exceptionally simple terms, there are 3 basic plans used. You need to be agile enough to switch game plans instantly as the action of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This comprises of building a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at least as deep as you might manage, to barricade in your opponent’s checkers that are on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most adequate tactic at the begining of the match. You can build the wall anywhere within your 11-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the match advances.
The Blitz
This is comprised of locking your home board as fast as as you can while keeping your challenger on the bar. For example, if your challenger rolls an early two and moves one checker from your one-point to your three-point and you then roll a five-five, you are able to play 6/1 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your opposer is now in big-time calamity considering that they have two checkers on the bar and you have closed half your home board!
The Backgame
This plan is where you have 2 or more pieces in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor is a point filled by at least two of your checkers.) It should be used when you are significantly behind as this action much improves your circumstances. The better locations for anchor spots are near your competitor’s smaller points and also on abutting points or with one point in between. Timing is integral for an effective backgame: after all, there is no reason having two nice anchors and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break apart this straight away, while your opponent is shifting their pieces home, taking into account that you do not have any other spare checkers to shift! In this situation, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up until your competitor provides you an opportunity to hit, so it will be a great idea to attempt and get your opponent to get them in this case!
