The Essential Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part 1

[ English ]

The goal of a Backgammon game is to move your checkers around the game board and bear those pieces from the board faster than your competitor who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. Just how far you can move your chips is up to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and just how you shift your chips are decided on by your overall gambling plans. Players use differing plans in the different parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to bring all your pieces into your home board and pull them off as fast as you could. This plan concentrates on the speed of advancing your pieces with absolutely no efforts to hit or block your competitor’s checkers. The ideal time to use this strategy is when you think you can shift your own pieces faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have less pieces on the game board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your opponent’s checkers; or 3) the opponent does not use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Strategy

The main aim of the blocking strategy, by its name, is to block the competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. After you’ve created the blockade for your competitor’s movement with a few checkers, you can shift your other chips swiftly from the game board. You should also have a clear strategy when to withdraw and shift the chips that you used for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the competitor uses the same blocking technique.
