The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part One

The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the Backgammon board and get those pieces from the game board quicker than your competitor who works just as hard to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a match in Backgammon needsrequires both strategy and luck. How far you can move your pieces is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and the way you shift your checkers are decided on by your overall gambling plans. Players use different plans in the differing parts of a game based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Strategy

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to entice all your pieces into your inside board and bear them off as quick as you could. This strategy focuses on the pace of shifting your pieces with little or no time spent to hit or block your opponent’s pieces. The ideal time to employ this tactic is when you think you can shift your own pieces faster than your opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your opponent’s chips; or 3) your opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The primary goal of the blocking tactic, by its title, is to stop your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. After you’ve created the blockade for your competitor’s movement with a few checkers, you can move your other pieces rapidly off the game board. You will need to also have a clear plan when to back off and move the checkers that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when your opponent utilizes the same blocking strategy.
